Tara E. Biever, age 51, of rural Kellogg, a teacher at Wabasha-Kellogg High School, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha after a courageous fight with cancer.
She was born April 28, 1966, in Rochester, the daughter of Dick and Kitty (Kittleson) Ellinghysen. Tara was a graduate of Wabasha-Kellogg High School. She then furthered her education at Winona State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. After receiving her degree, she managed Maurice’s Clothing Stores in Faribault, Mankato, Rochester and Eau Claire.
She married John Biever on May 6, 1989, at Faith Lutheran Church in Wabasha. The couple decided to move back to the area they loved in 1994.
Tara then decided on a career change and attended St. Mary’s University in Winona where she received her Masters Degree in education. She taught secondary education at Wabasha-Kellogg School for 17 years, teaching classes in world geography, American history, Advanced Placement psychology, stress management and community awareness. Tara was also an accomplished volleyball and track coach at W-K. Her volleyball teams were very successful at the district, regional and state levels. Her 2010 team was crowned state champion.
In addition to her love of volleyball and sports in general, she loved growing flowers, her horses, crocheting and spending time on the Mississippi River.
